Facial PRF

Platelet-rich fibrin obtained from your own blood, with no anticoagulants or additives, to improve the quality of the skin using your own growth factors

  • 45-60 minutes

About the treatment

What does it involve?

PRF is platelet-rich fibrin, and it is obtained from your own blood. Everything happens in the same session: blood is drawn as for a blood test, it is centrifuged at the clinic and what comes out of that is what is injected into you. No external product is added.

The blood is collected in specific tubes with no anticoagulants or additives and centrifuged once, at low speed. As coagulation is not prevented, a fibrin mesh forms naturally and traps platelets, leucocytes and growth factors inside it.

100% autologous No anticoagulants A single centrifuging

That mesh is the key. Instead of releasing the growth factors all at once, it releases them bit by bit over several days into the tissue. The regenerative stimulus is longer and more sustained, and with it the skin improves in density, texture and general appearance.

Depending on the area it is used in liquid form, to inject into the face, neck or scalp, or allowed to form a denser consistency, useful in areas such as the tear trough. This is decided during the session itself.

It works particularly well as a companion to techniques that renew the skin by abrasion or by energy: while those remove and stimulate from the surface, PRF provides the regenerative stimulus from within. It is often paired with our skin renewal treatment.

It is the treatment for the man who does not want anything foreign put into him: the material is you, so there is no synthetic product, no filler and no risk of rejection. And like any medical treatment, it starts with an assessment in which we confirm whether it is what suits you.

What does it involve?

What can be treated and why do people come?

PRF works on regeneration and skin quality. It provides no support and does not correct structure: if what is missing is volume or tension, the indicated treatment is a different one and you will see that clearly at the assessment.

What can be treated

  • The general quality of the skin of the face
  • Uneven texture and dilated pores
  • The fine skin around the eyes
  • The colour and appearance of the dark circle
  • Dull, toneless skin
  • Mild acne scars in a phase of improvement
  • Neck and décolletage with damaged skin
  • The scalp, as hair support

Common reasons for consultation

  • You do not want any synthetic product put into you
  • You have had reactions or you are very cautious with injectables
  • You want to improve the skin, not change the shape of your face
  • You are concerned about the appearance of the area under your eyes
  • You want to accompany a treatment for scars or texture
  • You prefer a regenerative, progressive approach

What is the session like, step by step?

  1. Medical assessment

Your skin, your medical history and your medication are reviewed, and we check that there are no contraindications to a blood draw.

  2. Blood draw

A few tubes are drawn from the arm, just as in a blood test, in specific tubes with no anticoagulant or additives.

  3. Centrifuged at the clinic

A single centrifuging at low speed separates the components and allows the fibrin mesh to form with the platelets inside.

  4. Preparation of the product

The useful fraction is collected and it is decided whether to use it liquid, for injecting, or with a denser consistency depending on the area.

  5. Cleansing and topical anaesthetic

While it is being centrifuged, the face is cleansed and anaesthetic cream is applied. That waiting time is put to use.

  6. Injection into the area

With a very fine needle or a cannula, depending on the area. Around the eyes we work with particular care because the skin is so thin.

  7. Session plan

Usually 3 sessions about a month apart, and spaced-out maintenance afterwards.

What it aims to achieve

  • Skin with better density and better texture
  • A more rested appearance around the eyes
  • A regenerative stimulus sustained over days
  • Your own material, with no external product
  • No risk of allergy or of rejection of the material
  • Good tolerance in thin, sensitive skin
  • Compatible with other medical treatments
  • No surgery and no time off work

Care before and after

Before the session

  • Come well hydrated: it makes the blood draw easier
  • Do not come strictly fasting; have your usual breakfast
  • Tell us about your medication, especially anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs
  • Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatories in the 48 hours beforehand
  • Tell us about any clotting or blood disorder
  • Do not come with an active infection or a cold sore in the area

After the session

  • Keep pressure on the draw point on your arm for a few minutes
  • No make-up or active cosmetics until the next day
  • Avoid intense exercise for the first 24-48 hours
  • Avoid saunas, intense heat and swimming pools for 48-72 hours
  • Daily sunscreen and no direct sun exposure
  • Apply cold if you notice swelling, without pressing the area

It is normal for the face to be red and swollen for the first 24-48 hours and for bruises to appear, more often if the eye contour has been worked on. A small mark or bruise may be left on the arm at the draw point. These are expected, passing effects. If you have any concerns, get in touch with us.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from PRP?

In the preparation and in how it acts. PRP contains an anticoagulant and is centrifuged faster, so it stays liquid and releases the growth factors quickly. PRF is prepared without an anticoagulant and with slower centrifuging: a fibrin mesh forms that holds platelets and leucocytes and releases them gradually over several days. The stimulus is slower and more prolonged.

How much blood is taken?

A few tubes, as in a routine blood test. The amount depends on the areas to be treated and is explained to you at the assessment. It requires no special preparation beyond coming hydrated.

Does it hurt?

The draw is that of a normal blood test. The injection is uncomfortable but manageable: anaesthetic cream is applied and a very fine needle or a cannula is used. The most sensitive area is around the eyes.

Is there a risk of allergy or rejection?

The material is your own blood, with no additives, so there is no risk of a reaction to the product or of rejection. What does exist are the effects inherent to any injection: swelling, redness or bruising.

When is the result visible?

It is not immediate. The first changes in radiance and texture are noticeable within a few weeks, and the improvement consolidates once the course of sessions is completed. It is a progressive treatment.

How many sessions and how long does it last?

The usual is 3 sessions about a month apart. After that, spaced-out maintenance is proposed, normally at 6-12 months, depending on how your skin develops.

Will it get rid of my dark circles?

It improves the quality and appearance of the skin in the area, and with dark circles that have a thin-skin component it can help a good deal. If the dark circle is a hollow caused by lack of support, PRF is not going to fill it. This is explained at the assessment so that you know what to expect.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes, and it usually performs well in combination. It is often paired with skin renewal treatments or with corrective injectables, respecting the timings of each. The plan is ordered at the medical assessment.

We assess your skin and explain whether PRF fits your case or whether there is a better option for you.
